Audiences can expect magic tricks, card tricks, sleight of hand, and many laughs. Owner and magician Aaron Rabkin learned the craft through a collection of magic kits and observed his inspirations Lance Burton and Siegfried and Roy.

Although Rabkin performs in a one-person capacity, he’s not alone on stage — his co-star is his trusty Hoppy the Psychic Wonder Bunny. You’ll have to discover the bunny’s role at one of his shows! The intimate space for Trickery seats about 40 people, giving audiences an up-close-and-personal look at his artistic prowess.

Plan ahead to indulge in the venue’s BYOB policy. They have cups and bottle openers on offer. Due to the nature of the show, the venue requests that guests be at least 12 years old to enjoy the performance.

What to Watch For

• The Trickery venue features two sections: an anteroom and a theatre. The space is decorated with dark velvet curtains, creating the feel of a cozy parlor.
• Chicago’s connection to magic and trickery is not new. Wisconsinite Harry Houdini performed at the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago before becoming an internationally recognized magician.
• When witnessing a magic show, there are three phases to consider. First, The Pledge, in which the magician shows something ordinary, then The Turn when something extraordinary happens, and finally, The Prestige when the magician goes one step further with their extraordinary act.
