A musical celebrating Lloyd Price, Mr. Personality himself, has taken the stage at Chicago’s storied Studebaker Theater. Personality: The Lloyd Price Musical pays homage to the music icon and his top hits like “Personality,” “Lawdy Miss Clawdy,” and “Stagger Lee.” At the height of his career, Price had 15 songs hit the charts in both R&B and Rock ‘n’ Roll. In a rags-to-riches style, Price rose to fame to become the first teenager to sell over a million records. Not only did he set the bar for the success of young musicians in the future, but he also broke through the racial divide in music. Other icons like Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, and Amy Winehouse have recorded Price’s chart-topping songs.
The Chicago Tribune praises the Chicago production for its “excellent singing, strikingly innovative choreography,” and the Chicago Sun-Times points to its “top-notch cast, glorious songs, and plenty of personality.”
