Saint Aubyn, who stars as Lloyd Price, originated the role of Price when the show debuted at The People’s Light in Malvern, Penn., in 2022. He has also been seen in the casts of both Beautiful: The Carole King Story and Ain’t Too Proud - The Life and Times of The Temptations on Broadway.
Personality: The Lloyd Price Musical director Sheldon Epps is known as both a television and theatrical director. He was formerly the Artistic Director of the Pasadena Playhouse (which won the 2023 Regional Theatre Tony Award) and was named Senior Artistic Advisor at Ford's Theatre in 2020. His stage directorial debut Blues in the Night premiered off Broadway in 1980 and moved to Broadway in 1982.
The Studebaker Theater, housed in Chicago’s Fine Arts Building, opened in 1898. Since it opened, the opulent theatre space has hosted various music, opera, vaudeville, and vaudeville productions, including an event with the famed Sarah Bernhardt in 1910. Other lauded productions at Studebaker Theater were Mae West in Catherine the Great in 1945 and Yul Brynner in Lute Song in 1947.
What to Watch For
- The Fine Arts Building, which houses The Studebaker Building, was originally builtfor the Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company in 1884 as a carriage sales, manufacturing, and service location.
- The Studebaker Theater has undergone several renovations, with the most significant reconstruction in 1917. Visitors can still see the theatre’s original ceiling from 1898, the only original element.
- In 2011, Price released the autobiography “The True King of the Fifties: The Lloyd Price Story” while working on a musical entitled Lawdy Miss Clawdy. That show didn’t end up opening on Broadway.
- Even Price couldn’t escape the draft during the Korean War. He was drafted in 1954, and after returning from Korea, he found Little Richard’s musical success overshadowed his own.
