About A Christmas Carol

Enjoy the Christmas festivities in London this winter at Jack Thorne’s A Christmas Carol. The hit play returns to the Old Vic in 2022.

Jack Thorne’s A Christmas Carol adaptation premiered at the Old Vic in 2017, starring Rhys Ifans as Ebenezer Scrooge. It’s since become a winter theatre institution, running at the Old Vic each Christmastime. Over the years, actors including Paterson Joseph, Andrew Lincoln, and Stephen Mangan have played Ebenezer Scrooge. This year, Owen Teale leads the cast.

With a theatre transformed into the round and charming seasonal hymns, the play rejuvenates the Charles Dickens story. London Theatre raved about the 2021 production, saying: “The music, beautifully arranged, saturates an evening that cuts to the soul, and to the essence of the theatrical, too.” You’ll want to make sure A Christmas Carol is part of your theatregoing plans.

Based on Charles Dickens's beloved work, the play follows Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas Eve. As Scrooge is visited by three ghosts in one evening, can Scrooge take stock on his life and find a new spirit by Christmas morning? The Old Vic is filled to the brim with mince pies, music, and plenty of merriment. God bless us everyone!
