About Mrs. Doubtfire

“Hellooooo!” All 1990s children can rejoice, as the beloved Scottish nanny is back to look after us all. Carpe dentum, seize the teeth, and book Mrs. Doubtfire tickets on TodayTix.

If you’re looking for a show to make you smile, then “Help is on the way, dears!” thanks to the Mrs. Doubtfire musical. In this upbeat show, you’ll discover the power of family and why you should stay close to those you love. The musical faithfully recreates all the funny moments from the Robin Williams film: cakes, tiki bars, and divorces will never be the same again. Whether you’ve seen the film or not, you’ll fall in love with Euphegenia Doubtfire — quirks and all.

The musical impressed Broadway critics, with Front Row Centre praising its “charming, family-friendly, zippy, funny qualities… the restaurant scene is a marvelous example of the synergy between all the creative talent.” After a UK premiere in Manchester, Mrs. Doubtfire in London is set to equally dazzle West End audiences.

Meet Daniel Hillard. He’s a divorced out-of-work actor who loses custody of his three children. In order to see them, he undergoes an elaborate scheme. By donning a blonde wig, oversized pearl earrings, and a suspicious Scottish accent, Daniel transforms into Euphegenia Doubtfire, the no-nonsense but lovable nanny. Can this fictional character teach him how to become a father?

More information about Mrs. Doubtfire

Before the musical and the film, Mrs. Doubtfire started out as a comedy novel for young adults. Anne Fine’s 1987 novel, Madame Doubtfire, centered on a family with divorced parents who eventually tolerate each other. Six years after the book's release, families watched Robin Williams and Sally Field in Mrs. Doubtfire on screen.

After a world premiere at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre in 2019, and Broadway performances at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in 2021, Mrs. Doubtfire arrives in London with performances at the Shaftesbury Theatre from May 2023. Gabriel Vick will play Daniel Hillard and Euphegenia Doubtfire.

What to Watch For:

  • During the show, the actor who plays Mrs. Doubtfire has more than 30 quick changes during a performance. That’s a lot of tight turnarounds.
  • Brothers Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick collaborated on the Mrs. Doubtfire musical, however it was the second time a musical based on the Robin Williams film would come to life. Alan Menken, David Zippel, and Harvey Fierstein were due to present Mrs. Doubtfire on stage; the musical fell through due to creative differences.
  • Rob McClure originated the title role. The American actor previously starred in Something Rotten!, also created by the Kirkpatricks.
  • Anne Fine’s 1987 novel, Madame Doubtfire, inspired the film. The film won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy.
