About Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image The Musical

Ian McKellen, Idris Elba, and Meghan Markle team up to entertain West End audiences. Okay, maybe they all appear in puppet form, instead of being there in person. But, you won’t want to miss this star-studded satirical show, so book Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image The Musical tickets on TodayTix.

The Spitting Image musical includes over 100 famous faces, boasting everyone from royals to social media celebrities. It’s a chance to laugh along with farcical moments in modern history, as well as imagining what would happen if the stars all came together.

King Charles III has a mission. He wants to save the UK from dark forces seeking to destroy it. So who does the King call? Top Gun star Tom Cruise. Follow the highway to the danger zone as Cruise assembles a “magnificent seven” to save the country. Could Greta Thunberg, RuPaul, and Angela Rayner pull off the unthinkable and protect a nation?

During Spitting Image performances, new material will be added — probably, most days — to best reflect the world we live in. Stay up to date on the latest news with this West End comedy.

More information about Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image The Musical

The Spitting Image television show transformed 1980s comedy. At the show's peak, 15 million people tuned in each week to watch the latest puppet palavers. Spitting Image in London will keep the traditional 1980s humour, while incorporating modern-day stories. That's courtesy of a newer writing team: comedians Al Murray and Matt Forde collaborate with original creator Roger Law.

Spitting Image premiered at the Birmingham Rep in 2023. The show now moves to the Phoenix Theatre in summer 2023. Throughout the show, you'll hear world-class impressions of famous celebrities: Debra Stephenson, Josh Berry, and Luke Kempner voice the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Nicola Sturgeon.

What to Watch For:

  • The original Spitting Image television show ran for 12 years, winning two Emmy Awards for Popular Arts.
  • It takes a lot of work to create one Spitting Image puppet. The two-week process involves artists drawing up caricatures, laboratory work to create clay versions, and latex foam applied to create the head and skin. Each puppet costs around £10,000 to create.
  • Spitting Image creators Al Murray and Sean Foley have two shows in the West End this summer. Foley directs Murray in the world premiere of The Crown Jewels at the Garrick Theatre.
  • When the television show aired, scenes were still in the editing room! To ensure the episodes were as topical as possible, scenes could be chopped and changed minutes before transmission. Could a similar tactic be adopted in the musical?
