Many West End shows focus on the lives of Jewish people. In Jews. In Their Own Words., the play gives the microphone to Jewish people that live in Britain today. See this urgent play at the Royal Court in autumn 2022. Book Jews. In Their Own Words. tickets on TodayTix.
Don’t expect a traditional play. Listen to verbatim interviews from Jewish people as they shine a light on antisemitism in modern-day society. However, there’s also original songs, spoken words, and monologues throughout the piece to really grapple with a tough subject. Jews. In Their Own Words. is a co-creation by actor Tracy-Ann Oberman, Freedland, as well as directors Vicky Featherstone and Audrey Sheffield.
Jews. In Their Own Words. aims to expose the damning legacy of antisemitism and pejorative attitudes towards those who follow the Jewish faith. Six actors present stories from social workers, doctors, politicians, students, refugees, and Talmudists. Can society change its ideas, or is it too late?

There’s no made up characters here. Jews. In Their Own Words. uses stories told by real people to portray societal truths. That's down to writer Jonathan Freedland using verbatim interviews of people from all walks of life. Those interviewed include Tracy-Ann Oberman, Luciana Berger, Stephen Bush, Margaret Hodge, Howard Jacobson, Dave Rich and Simon Schama. Press material states there’ll be a “dose of English irony,” so we’re looking forward to seeing what that could be.
