Cirque du Soleil celebrate their 25th anniversary in London with the European premiere of Kurios at the Royal Albert Hall.

The Kurios Cirque show brings the Victorian era into the present day and sees forward-thinking inventions put centre stage. But how did people discover their new ideas? They dared to dream.

Kurios centres around a seeker who is convinced there’s an invisible world where crazy ideas and grand dreams are lying dormant. Join the seeker as he sparks his imagination by meeting otherworldly creatures. As audiences join the seeker on his quest to find unusual and intriguing objects, unlock the door to a world of wonders.

Kurios is the latest Cirque du Soleil show in London, and marks the company's 25th anniversary in London. Cirque du Soleil began performing at London's Royal Albert Hall in 1997. Over the years, they've presented 12 shows in London, including Luzia, Ovo, Totem, Amaluna, and Kooza.

Cirque du Soleil didn't start out at the Royal Albert Hall though. Cirque shows began in 1979, thanks to Guy Lalibert, Gilles Ste-Croix and Daniel Gauthier collaborating to to stage a production based on Jacques Cartier's discovery of Canada.

The Montreal-based company are now the largest circus entertainer worldwide, with 19 shows currently playing around the world. The European premiere of Kurios will take place at the Royal Albert Hall in 2023.

What to Watch For:

  • For Cirque du Soleil - Kurios, additional steelworks were permanently incorporated into the Royal Albert Hall structure to accommodate larger acts.
  • Cirque du Soleil is French for “Circus of the Sun.”
  • Some inventions in the Victorian era are crucial to how we live today. Victorian inventions include Alexander Graham Bell patenting the telephone, Joseph Swan and Thomas Edison's discovery of the lightbulb, and the London Underground opening.
