Before A Little Life opened in the West End, the show played for one week at the Richmond Theatre. Early performances received high praise, commenting on the show’s spellbinding qualities. Now, the play runs for three months at the Harold Pinter Theatre, before moving to the Savoy Theatre for a further six weeks.
The A Little Life play is based on Hanya Yanagihara’s 2015 novel of the same name. The bruising drama follows four classmates — Jude, Willem, JB, and Malcolm — as they graduate from college and move to New York City to pursue their dreams. As the decades pass by, it’s clear that the quartet’s lives revolve around Jude St. Francis.
On the surface, Jude is a high-flying lawyer who seems to have it all. But deep down, Jude remains haunted by his troubled childhood, with the repercussions of past events continuing to play out in his adult life. With ambition, addiction, and pride threatening to pull Jude and his peers apart, they learn the power of unlimited love.
Britain’s finest actors join forces for A Little Life in London. The BAFTA-nominated Happy Valley star James Norton returns to the West End to play Jude. He’s joined by Bridgerton’s Luke Thompson plays Willem, alongside It’s a Sin’s Omari Douglas as JB, and The Witcher’s Zach Wyatt as Malcolm. With a stellar cast and creative team, this will surely be one of the must-see West End plays in 2023. So make sure you enter the A Little Life lottery for a chance to win tickets.

Ivo van Hove, Koen Tachelet, and Hanya Yanagihara collaborate on transforming the epic story into a piece of visionary theatre that speaks to modern times. Ivo van Hove’s recent directorial credits see him helming stories based on troubled characters: The Human Voice, All About Eve, and Network to name a few.
Alongside longtime collaborator Jan Versweyveld, van Hove adds a powerful, emotional intensity to Jude’s complex story that you can’t find in the book. You’ll have to see A Little Life on stage to fully understand Jude’s mind.
Koen Tachelet’s adaptation premiered in Amsterdam in 2018. The Dutch-language production then played at the 2022 Edinburgh International Festival, before an American transfer at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The West End run is the UK premiere of A Little Life in English.
