The two-time Olivier Award-winning actress Sheridan Smith plays the central role. After a Liverpool premiere, Russell’s Shirley Valentine premiered at the Vaudeville Theatre in 1988. The show won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and Best Actress for Pauline Collins. Many actresses have taken on Willy Russell's feisty female, notably Meera Syal and Jodie Prenger. Now Shirley Valentine in London is back in full force with Sheridan Smith at the Duke of York's Theatre in spring 2023.
