More information about The Forsyte Saga Part 2: Fleur

Forsyte Saga Part 2: Fleur is a play with a talented creative team led by director Josh Roche (Orlando). The creative team also includes lighting designer Alex Musgrave (Tasting Notes), set and costume designer Anna Yates (Glee & Me), movement director Patrice Bowler (Macbeth), and sound designer and composer Max Pappenheim (Blackout Songs).

Shaun McKenna and Lin Coghlan adapted the two plays, and in 2016, they also adapted the novels for the seven-part BBC Radio 4 series The Forsytes. In addition to the radio adaptation, John Galsworthy's series of three novels and two interludes has been adapted numerous times, including when it was televised by the BBC in 1967 and serialized by ITV in 2002.

These two plays will be staged on alternating nights, and the shows will have consecutive runs on matinee days. As Roche said on X (formerly Twitter), "This is a two play extravaganza - see part 1, then come back and see part 2, or if you're hardcore see both on the same day…"

What to watch for

  • These two plays have been a long time coming, as director Josh Roche first read the scripts in 2019.
  • The first book in the series, The Man of Property, was adapted into a 1949 Hollywood film called That Forstye Woman, which starred Robert Young, Walter Rodgeon, Greer Carson, and Errol Flynn.
  • BBC's The Big Read poll of the nation's best-loved novel in 2003 ranked The Forsyte Saga #123 on its list.
  • The BBC television adaptation of the novels was a smash hit, and in 1969, when the final episode was aired, it had an impressive 18 million viewers.
