Together, the ensemble tells the story of a provincial French village in 1935 without a baker. Finally, peace is restored when a new baker and his wife come to town. However, it's not all smooth sailing when a young man lures the baker's wife away, upsetting the baker so much that he stops working. The townspeople take it upon themselves to try to reunite the baker and his wife.

The Baker’s Wife in London is based on the 1938 French film of the same name by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono. Composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Wicked, Pippin) and writer Joseph Stein (Fiddler On The Roof) collaborated to adapt the film for the musical stage. The show, which ran for 56 performances when it opened in the West End in 1989, earned an Olivier Award nomination for Musical of the Year.
The musical revival boasts an award-winning creative team, including director Gordon Greenberg, who directed the six Olivier Award-nominated Guys and Dolls revival; designer Paul Farnsworth who was nominated for an Olivier Award for his work on Passion; choreographer Matt Cole, who earned an Olivier Award for his work on Newsies, and lighting designer Paul Anderson who was nominated for an Olivier Award for his work on The Master and Margarita.
