More information about A Raisin in the Sun

The title of A Raisin in the Sun comes from Langston Hughes's poem, Harlem. From the first time this play was staged, it broke barriers as Lorraine Hansberry was the first black woman playwright to have a play produced on Broadway, and director Lloyd Richards was the first black director of a Broadway play.

Since its premiere, it's been staged numerous times, including its West End debut on 4 August 1959. The play was also adapted into a musical titled Raisin that ran on Broadway from October 1973 to December 1975. The story has also been adapted for television, film, and radio, including the 2016 BBC Radio Play version of A Raisin in the Sun.

A Raisin in the Sun in London has an excellent creative team, including Tinuke Craig (The Color Purple), lighting designer Joshua Pharo (Cinderella), costume designer Maybelle Laye (A Strange Loop), wigs hair and make-up designer Dominique Hamilton (A Strange Loop), set designer Cécile Trémolières (The Monstrous Heart), composer and sound designer Max Pappenheim (Blackout Songs), and fight and intimacy director Haruka Kuroda (Life After Life).

What to watch for
