A Midsummer Night’s Dream in London is directed by Nicholas Hytner (Guys & Dolls) who first staged A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Bridge Theatre in 2019 to much critical and audience acclaim.
As the 5-star Telegraph review said of the show, “[it’s] an erotic, enchanting, utterly modern Dream of a production.”
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a play with an excellent creative team that includes designer Bunny Christie (Tammy Faye), costume designer Christina Cunningham (A Minute Too Late), lighting designer Bruno Poet (Richard II), and sound designer Paul Arditti (Stranger Things: The First Shadow).
This imaginative play was written in 1595 or 1596, and it has been performed countless times worldwide since then. It has become one of Shakespeare’s most successful plays. In addition to stagings of the play, it has inspired various media, from opera to film, television, and even paintings. Of the many works of fine art, it inspired Henry Meynell Rheam’s Titania welcoming her fairy brethren. Additionally, in 1981, BBC Television Shakespeare put on a television production of the play, and BBC One also released a television version in 2016.
