About Miss Myrtle's Garden

Don't miss the world premiere of Miss Myrtle's Garden, a thoughtful and witty new play. Book Miss Myrtle's Garden Tickets on TodayTix.

Be transported to Miss Myrtle's unkempt garden in her ever-changing neighbourhood that mirrors the many changes in her life brought about by her grandson and his 'friend' moving in with her. Between that, her memory worsening, and a tenuous friendship with the local drunk turned garden helper, she has a lot on her plate. As Miss Myrtle's memory worsens, this touching play explores how we can acknowledge the past as a way of confronting the present.

See the excellent cast on the Bush Theatre stage, including Diveen Henry (Wedding Band: A Love/Hate Story in Black and White), Michael Ahomka-Lindsay (Reverberation), Mensah Bediako (Master Harold and the Boys), Gary Lilburn (The Weir), and Elander Moore (Netflix's Kaos).

More information about Miss Myrtle's Garden

Miss Myrtle's Garden is a play by Danny James King (Bounty).

As he said, "Miss Myrtle is a unique theatrical character at the centre of the action on stage. She is an elderly, first-generation Jamaican woman who invites the audience into her inner world; however, it soon becomes apparent that, due to her dementia, she is not the most reliable narrator. Her world is disrupted by her Queer grandson and his partner's arrival and then further rattled by the neighbourhood drunk and ghosts from the past."

Miss Myrtle's Garden in London has a talented creative team that includes direction by Taio Lawson (Hamilton), set and costume design by Khadija Raza (The Unknown Island), lighting design by Joshua Gadsby (Who Killed My Father (Tron & UK Tour)), and sound design by Dan Balfour (Dear England).

  • Outgoing Bush Theatre Artistic Director Lynette Linton said of the play, “Dementia, particularly in the Black community and in the Caribbean community, is a conversation that we need to talk about more…It’s affecting so many people … let’s talk about it now and let’s give people the support they need.”
