Long Beach Landmark Theatre Company presents an exciting and important localized, post-pandemic perspective on Working: A Musical. Based on the best-selling book by oral historian and radio broadcaster Studs Terkel, the musical explores the lived experience of the American worker through a patchwork of monologues and songs that compel us to see the person behind the job. Nominated for six Tony Awards, this classic has been updated featuring new songs by Tony Award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda. Illuminating the humanity of the worker resonates now more than ever as the pandemic laid bare the inequities of capitalist America, led to “the great resignation” and changed the way we all look at what it means to work.
As always, this Landmark production features a top-notch cast and professional live orchestra—hallmarks of a company that has relaunched as an important cultural landmark in the heart of Long Beach, known for consistently high-quality musical theatre productions in a unique setting. Past memorable shows include Little Shop of Horrors, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Little Women the Musical, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Closer Than Ever, and Titanic the Musical.
