This October, Mission Opera will present the west coast premiere of "Girondines" by Kirsten C. Kunkle (librettist) and Sarah Van Sciver (composer), an American Musical Drama in English. Weaving together six French Revolution women’s stories, this haunting show combines elements of theater, film, dance, fine art, literature, music, and the macabre to capture tragedy, sacrifice, and eerie intrigue. Three of the ladies in this ghostly gathering are guillotined, and three survive political upheaval. This poignant ‘based-on-a-true-story’ presentation will resonate with opera, musical, and theater fans as well as history buffs or anyone seeking a unique experience for their ‘Halloweekend.’ "Girondines" music features piano, strings, and soundscapes accompanying vocalists. The Girondines are intellectual radical women operating a secret society during the French Revolution. The leading ladies are: are murderess Charlotte Corday, playwright Olympe de Gouges, painter Élisabeth Vigée-LeBrun, author Madame Manon Roland, philosopher Madame Germaine de Staël, and chemist Marie-Anne Pierrette Paulze Lavoisier. VIP Tickets come with perks: reserved premium parking, premium seats, a Girondines keepsake, a voucher for a complimentary beverage and snack at intermission, and a backstage tour option.
