Hey Harry!
We know you’re, like, a talent-show upstart turned boy band frontman and global pop sensation, but we’re literally dying over here.
You see our protagonist, Edna, is learning about the purest form of love: unrequited. The type that blooms in adolescent hearts, and fills thousands of teenage bedrooms with perfect faces printed on posters and pillows. Harry, getting your attention might seem objectively impossible, but there’s nothing that she won’t do to manifest her wildest dreams…
This new Australian musical, written by award winning playwright and composer Yve Blake, returns to Sydney after storming stages around the country and collecting critical acclaim like candy–including an ARIA nomination (Best Original Soundtrack or Musical Theatre Cast Album 2021) and Sydney Theatre Award for Best Mainstage Musical 2019. Yve's 2019 TEDxSydney talk For the love of Fangirls has now been promoted to an official TED talk.
Blake's pop culture dreamscape is a glittery, joyous bomb of feminist euphoria that manages to be both nostalgic and totally now. The hottest young cast in theatre, lead by rising star Manali Datar (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, White Pearl), perform a full pop score that you’re very much encouraged to scream along to.
FANGIRLS is a party for the communities and pop culture eras that define us, into adulthood and beyond. This one goes out to anyone who's ever been told to curb their enthusiasm or had their joy dampened. Join us in a safe space where “keeping calm” is très passé, the vibes are always red hot, and all passions are valid.
Life's short. Love stuff.
