Ambition. Obsession. Betrayal.
Amadeus, starring acclaimed actor Michael Sheen (The Twilight Saga, The Queen, Masters of Sex, Good Omens) as Antonio Salieri and Rahel Romahn (Here Out West, Shantaram, Lord of The Flies) as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Lily Balatincz (Constellations, The Eggs, Stop the Virgens) as Constanze Mozart. Watch as history’s most fictitious rivalry comes to life as a gripping contemporary spectacle fuelled by ambition, obsession, and betrayal.
Antonio Salieri may be a religious man but the vengeful dark of his desires are wholly unholy, and atonement won't come easy for the alleged murder of the world’s most famous composer - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. His startling confession involves regency-sized egos, envy-inspiring concertos and dizzying mayhem.
The muddy circumstances of Mozart’s premature requiem are made new with this contemporary production, exposing hypocrisy and aristocracy, mediocrity and genius, revenge and betrayal. Experience theatre at its most grand as one of the greatest plays of the 20th century is performed on newly transformed Concert Hall stage.
This ambitious contemporary production combines theatre, opera and classical music with lavish costumes directed by Australian fashion house Romance Was Born and costumes designed by Anna Cordingley.
Directed by multi award-winning director Craig Ilott (Smoke & Mirrors, American Idiot, Betty Blokk-Buster Reimagined) and featuring forty performers, including actors, opera singers and musicians from The Metropolitan Orchestra, conducted by Sarah-Grace Williams.
Presented by the Sydney Opera House and Red Line Productions.
This project is proudly supported by the NSW Government through the Blockbusters Funding initiative.
