A fantastical blend of wordplay, magic realism, and puppetry, ‘Pear-Shaped’ is a deliciously dark comedy about growing up, growing down, and everything in between.

When Frankie is allocated ‘Alice in Wonderland’ as her graduating design project at drama school, she is far from thrilled. Not only does she have to design a children’s story, but her director is a nutcase and a Virgo. Frankie hopes that a childhood box of costumes might inspire some ideas, but when her sister Kayla drops it off, Frankie is sent spiraling down a rabbit hole of memories that she’d rather forget.

Interweaving theatricalised excerpts of Lewis Carroll’s classic story with scenes from the sisters’ shared history, 'Pear-Shaped' charts the relationship between Frankie, Kayla, and an eating disorder, exploring a Jewish family's experience of what happens when food – a symbol of culture, tradition, connection, and love – becomes the enemy.
