Presented by Whitfield Studio at Melbourne’s vibrant Speakeasy Theatre, Primitives is a brand new play by award-winning director, writer, and producer, Willem Whitfield. Primitives details an afternoon rendezvous between wealthy young heiress, Alice, and impressionist painter, Van Brandt, as Sylvester the giant Eagle plans to eat them for lunch.
Alice and Van Brandt set out into the wilderness to create art, but as the landscape around them grows more unsettling, so do their thoughts. Between strange encounters and sharp revelations, their satirical banter spirals into darker territory. What starts as a lighthearted hike unravels into a tense and eerie exploration of love, power, and the human psyche. Primitives blends humour with horror, live painting, gore, and romance, leading audiences through a wild emotional journey.
