What the Constitution Means to Me Tickets

“What the Constitution Means to Me” is an empowering conversation between 40-something performer/playwright Heidi Schreck and her 15-year-old self about that founding document, and how her feelings about it have morphed over time. In the play she traces four generations of her family, looking at trauma passed down to the women through domestic and sexual violence, and marks the imminent connection between personal life and politics. This civically engaged story thoughtfully dissects the amendments and looks at how this document, penned more than 200 years ago, has shaped women’s history in the U.S.

The show’s arrival to the Great White Way marks Schreck’s Broadway debut, along with cast members Mike Iveson, Rosdely Ciprian, Thursday Williams, director Oliver Butler, and sound designer Sinan Refik Zafar. “What the Constitution Means to Me” had an extended Off-Broadway run at the New York Theater Workshop in 2018. While it deals with heady topics, the play offers humor, too, and a galvanizing message that will buoy audiences to lift up the women in their lives. The future is, indeed, female.

Schreck’s other full-length plays include “Grand Concourse,” “The Consultant,” and “Creature.”

Famous guests in the audience have included Hillary Clinton, Sally Field, Gloria Steinem, and Diane Lane, among others.

The cast features two high school students, Rosdely Ciprian and Thursday Williams, who are both active members of their schools’ debate teams.
