More information about The Picture of Dorian Gray

A groundbreaking production, The Picture of Dorian Gray is a modern update to beloved Irish writer Oscar Wilde’s 1891 novel. The story revolves around the titular portrait: a picture of a beautiful man in his youth. Basil Hallward paints the work, of his friend Dorian, who then meets Lord Henry Wotton. And so begins the lord’s obsession with Dorian, and, in return, Dorian’s obsession with the lord’s hedonistic world view.

Snook stars as all of these roles, and many more, in a gripping, funny, and vibrant tapestry of a play. Breathing new life in Wilde’s story, The Picture of Dorian Gray offers a rumination on our culture’s obsession with appearances. Live video and performance collide in award-winning director Kip Williams’ production, which is one that is sure to stick in the mind long after audiences will leave the theatre. This new play askes how far we’ll go to achieve beauty, status, and everlasting power.
