King Henry VIII was a Tudor monarch, ruling over England for nearly 40 years. During his time on the throne, he broke away from the Catholic Church and, even more famously, had six wives. While history lessons have taught us all about Henry VIII, they often spend little time on the wives, focusing mostly on how they died or else got rejected.
In the SIX musical, the Queens retell their marriage stories through song. Pitting themselves against one another, each wife takes to the mic to see who had it worst, and the winner gets to lead their girl group. But they realize that constant arguing and pettiness isn’t needed — women supporting women are stronger than any king. Summing up centuries of history into 80 minutes of theatre, the SIX queens fix each other's crowns while changing your view on Tudor history.
SIX on Broadway includes plenty of tongue-in-cheek jokes about their deaths and divorces, but it also includes firsthand accounts from the women themselves about what their lives, personalities, and talents are independent of Henry. You won’t get that in the history books — only on the Broadway stage. With a women-only cast (the Queens) and band (the Ladies in Waiting), SIX on Broadway puts female power and girlbosses on the map.
The show came out of humble beginnings in England, when creators Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss wrote it during their last year at Cambridge University. At the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, SIX caught the attention of producers, and it went on to tour the U.K. and get a five-time Olivier Award-nominated run in London’s West End. The show went on to play Australia and tour the U.S., and SIX continues to reign on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
In 2022, SIX on Broadway got eight Tony nominations, including Best Musical. The show won for Best Original Score and Best Costume Design, for Gabriella Slade’s Tudor-chic-meets-glitzy-popstar designs.
This Tony Award-winning pop musical gives 16th-century drama a 21st-century feminist twist. The six wives of Henry VIII become a fierce girl group who take back their crowns and rewrite their histories in the style of a rousing arena concert.
SIX is at New York's Lena Horne Theatre, which is located at 256 West 47th Street (between 8th Avenue and Broadway), New York, 10036.
SIX runs for 1hr 20min. No intermission.
Ages 10+. Children under 4 are not permitted.

Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss co-wrote Six while in their final year at Cambridge University. They received the 2022 Tony Award for Best Original Score and were also nominated for Best Book of a Musical.
The songs in Six include "Don't Lose Ur Head," "Heart of Stone," "All You Wanna Do," "I Don't Need Your Love," and the title track. There are nine total songs in the show: six solos, one for each Queen, and three group numbers.
Six is recommended for ages 10 and up due to some strong language and innuendos.
The six wives of Henry VIII are Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr.
Six began as a small production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. After a successful run there, the show played in London's West End and across the U.K. before coming to the U.S.
Lucy Moss, who co-wrote the musical, co-directs Six with Jamie Armitage. Moss was 26 when the show premiered on Broadway, making her the youngest female director in Broadway history.
Six was a worldwide phenomenon before the show even played a single Broadway performance. The score, performances, costumes, and humor have all received praise, and the show puts a fresh, feminist spin on history in a fun, pop-tastic way.
