It’s 1981 in America, and Trevor Nelson is busy navigating adolescence in suburbia while dreaming of a life in show business. When an embarrassing incident at school suddenly puts him in the wrong spotlight, Trevor must summon the courage to forge his own path.
Playing at the spacious, newly built Stage 42 in New York (featuring stadium seating for the best possible views), Trevor is a funny and heartwarming story of self-discovery. Trevor will remind you to live your best life with a ton of passion… and a touch of pizzazz.
The musical Trevor is based on the 1995 Academy Award winning short film of the same name that led to the creation of The Trevor Project, a 24/7 helpline for LGBTQ+ youth.

He’s coming into his own — and stepping into the spotlight. The New York premiere of Trevor: The Musical is happening off Broadway at the Daryl Roth Theatre with a whole lot of pizzazz. Get Trevor: The Musical tickets on TodayTix.
The Trevor musical is based on a 1994 film by Celeste Lecesne and directed by Peggy Rajski. Like in the film, the musical’s 13-year-old titular character doesn’t fit in among his peers in 1981 suburban America. He is a diehard Diana Ross fan, he loves performing in school plays — and he’s gay. His parents try to ignore these qualities and his friends bully him, making Trevor struggle even more with his identity. The show, with compassionate humor, sees Trevor finding his own courage to be proud of who he is.
The new Trevor: The Musical Off-Broadway production features an entirely different creative team from the film, helmed by Marc Bruni as director. Dan Collins provides the book and lyrics for Julianne Wick Davis’s score, and Joshua Prince choreographs. Their musical was first staged at the Writers Theatre in Glencoe, Illinois in 2017 before making the move to New York.
