What to Watch For

  • Winnie the Pooh is a fictional character created by A. A. Milne. He wrote two short story collections about Pooh and his friends: Winnie-the-Pooh in 1926 and followed it up with The House at Pooh Corner in 1928.
  • Winnie the Pooh first appeared, however, in Milne's 1924 poetry book When We Were Very Young. He was originally called "Mr. Edward Bear" and is inspired by a toy his son, Christopher Robin Milne, owned. In fact, all the characters in the Winnie the Pooh franchise are inspired by Milne's son and his toys.
  • It wasn’t until 1932 that Pooh and his fellow animal friends were first seen in color, in the first Winnie the Pooh movie by Stephen Slesinger. That's when Pooh was first drawn wearing a red shirt, which his character is known for now!
  • In fact, there have been a lot of Winnie the Pooh movies. Disney alone created six feature films and nine direct-to-video films. The 2017 film Goodbye, Christopher Robin explores how Winnie the Pooh was created.
