About The Hours

Renée Fleming makes her highly anticipated return to the Met in the world-premiere production of Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Kevin Puts’s The Hours, adapted from Michael Cunningham’s acclaimed novel. Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway and made a household name by the Oscar-winning 2002 film version starring Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, and Nicole Kidman, the powerful story concerns three women from different eras who each grapple with their inner demons and their roles in society. The exciting premiere radiates with star power, with Kelli O’Hara and mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato joining Fleming as the opera’s trio of heroines. Phelim McDermott—who most recently wowed Met audiences with his staging of Philip Glass’s Akhnaten—directs this compelling drama, with Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the podium to conduct Puts’s poignant and powerful score.

Rejoice 2 see a fabulous new opera, 3 stories are linked to virginia woolf's, Celebrated proto-feminist novel, mrs. dalloway, 3 divas, didonato, fleming & o'hara, Sing their hearts out

See it if moving stories how queer women/those reject role as mother drivn towrds suicide; scintilatng music; cinematic choreo; big cast fine singers

Don’t see it if unrelentingly grim; takes some time for the 3 stories 2 intersect but when they do the 3 divas r divine togthr

Thought-provoking, Riveting, Great staging, Great acting, Great singing

See it if you want to enjoy an opera in English, energetically conducted with great singing by the three leads and a large chorus well choreographed.

Don’t see it if you do not like a lot of moving sets or three stories intertwined whre the focus keep changing among their presentation.

See it if Wonderful performances by the three divas in the captivating opera. I still had to view the closed captions even though sung in English.

Don’t see it if Not to be missed can't think of a reason not to see it.

Masterful, Intelligent, Great staging, Confusing, Absorbing

See it if It's like watching a series of dreams; sometimes it makes sense, other times it obsesses on tiny details or shifts focus repeatedly.

Don’t see it if Opera sung in English isn't your jam, you don't want to have to follow 3 storylines, you'd prefer something less avant garde.
