The Village Tickets

THE VILLAGE, written by Savannah Ritz, follows two young women as they grow up in a religious community in South Texas. The play explores their evolving relationships with their faith, sexuality, family, motherhood vs womanhood, and each other. Most stories involving queer communities and religion involves breaking oneself to fit into heteronormative and religious norms. This story champions the theme: To choose oneself, to be true to oneself is to be holy. Religion and convention are man-made. Love and radical acceptance are of God. What does it mean to love God and be queer? If children are born into love and acceptance, when and how are they taught hate and prejudice? This story is an exploration of the relationship between queerness and the sacred, infused with youthful magic and deep care and hope for a better future.
