There are small intimacies, even amid atrocity. Inside the confines of a cell, one of the typically unseen moments of war unfolds. Rafael, the last lover of famed Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, and Sebastián, two men from opposing factions of the Spanish Civil War, reveal secrets over the course of a single night, fighting against a daylight that will bring renewed horror and uncertainty. War separates and betrays, hurts and exposes. War repeats. In this new production of THE DARK STONE, Ukrainian and Belarusian actors shed light on a tale, unfortunately, as old as time. Using projections and live video feed, the NY Premiere of THE DARK STONE exposes the wars we battle within and questions those we fight with others.
THE DARK STONE, by celebrated contemporary Spanish playwright Alberto Conejero, received the 2015 Premio Ceres for Best Author and the 2016 Premio Max Award for Best Playwright. It has been performed internationally and finally makes a timely NY debut. In English with Spanish subtitles.
