About Joy, The Musical

Set an alert for when Joy: A New True Musical tickets go on sale with TodayTix to see Tony Award nominee Betsy Wolfe star as Joy Mangano. A real-life entrepreneur and embodiment of the American dream, Mangano’s life became the basis for the Oscar-nominated film Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence. Now, Joy: A New True Musical comes to Broadway, beginning performances at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre this summer.

Joy in New York City offers Betsy Wolfe her first leading role in a new Broadway musical. Long a star in revivals, as in Falsettos and 110 in the Shade, a supporting actress, as in & Juliet, or a replacement, as in Waitress, this musical offers her her own tailored star vehicle. See her shine in Joy on Broadway as a single mother taking on her own business, charting her own life and dreams.

More information about Joy, The Musical

Joy Mangano has always had a compelling story: she’s a single mother who long strove to rise out of economic uncertainty. Her life was translated to the silver screen, and now it’s headed to Broadway. Telling a singular story, Joy looks at the relationship between a mother and daughter, a mother and her work, and a mother and her self. Seeing strong mothers on Broadway is nothing new, but seeing one who juggles so many different facets of her life speaks to women’s vital role in American business, and this musical celebrates her determination to unlock the American Dream.

Mangano invented the Miracle Mop, but more importantly she invented a new kind of womanhood in America — one that was unafraid to find a balance between parenthood and careerism. Betsy Wolfe, a star who has also risen the ranks on Broadway, is a perfect match to play the determined woman who wanted and got it all.
