Tony and Grammy Award winner Leslie Odom, Jr. is back on Broadway! Catch his star turn in the title role of Purlie Victorious, Ossie Davis's landmark comedy. Get Purlie Victorious tickets on TodayTix.
Purlie Victorious doesn't travel through Broadway often — this is its first revival since its 1961 premiere. Don't miss your chance to see Hamilton and Glass Onion star Odom as the title traveling preacher who schemes to reclaim his inheritance and liberate his kinfolk in Jim Crow-era Georgia.
While the play has searing social satire aplenty, Purlie Victorious is also a hoot — "it won't let you wipe that grin off your face," the New York Times critic wrote of the "marvelously exhilarating" show back in the '60s.

Purlie Victorious is a play about the preacher Purlie Victorious Judson's quest to emancipate his people. He returns to Georgia to face down Ol' Cap'n Cotchipee, a plantation owner holding onto Purlie's rightful inheritance. Purlie hopes to use that money to convert his old church into an integrated congregation and free the enslaved workers on Cotchipee's plantation.
Ossie Davis is best known for his extensive acting work in film and on Broadway, which earned him inductions into the American Theater Hall of Fame and NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame, a National Medal of Arts, and a Kennedy Center Honors. Purlie Victorious is his only Broadway play as a writer.
Taking on the title role in 2023 is Leslie Odom, Jr., whose extensive career spans theatre, TV, film, and music. He's best known for roles including the original Aaron Burr in Hamilton on Broadway, Sam Cooke in the movie One Night in Miami..., and Lionel Toussaint in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
Odom is joined by multiple other Broadway greats, including two-time Tony nominee Kara Young as Lutiebelle Gussie Mae Jenkins and three-time Drama Desk Award winner Jay O. Sanders as Cotchipee.
