The Sesame Street musical blends time-honored parts of the TV show with new elements. New, stage-specific tunes join the classic Sesame Street songs for the Off-Broadway production. And everyone's favorite characters are there — you'll also see Abby Cadabby, Rosita, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, The Count, and more — as well as special guest stars.

Sesame Street: The Musical off Broadway marks the first major stage musical in New York based on the TV show. The show's history goes way back, though: Sesame Street: The Musical premiered on PBS in 1969 and still runs on the channel today, in addition to HBO and HBO Max. It's on its 53rd season and continues to delight young audiences, changing with the times to keep teaching kids new things.

The characters in Sesame Street on TV and Sesame Street: The Musical are Muppets, and the most famous original ones, like Elmo, were created by puppetry icon Jim Henson.
