About Come From Away

See it before the final performance on October 2.

Broadway’s Come From Away is a Best Musical winner all across North America!

This New York Times Critics’ Pick takes you into the heart of the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.

Don’t miss this breathtaking new musical written by Tony nominees Irene Sankoff and David Hein, and helmed by this year’s Tony-winning Best Director, Christopher Ashley. Newsweek cheers, “It takes you to a place you never want to leave!” On 9/11, the world stopped. On 9/12, their stories moved us all.

More information about Come From Away

It may be hard to imagine a Broadway show musicalizing the aftermath of New York City and Washington, D.C.’s most devastating day, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 — but Come From Away manages to finds humanity amid the horrific tragedy that shook the nation. Now is your last chance to see this heartwarming, Tony-winning show before it closes October 2. Get Come From Away tickets on TodayTix.

As chaos ensued around the world, 38 planes were diverted to Newfoundland, Canada, when American airspace was frozen — and the small town of Gander nearly doubled in size. Taking passengers from these U.S. airplanes into their homes — and, more importantly, into their hearts — Newfoundland natives began to form inseparable bonds with the people whom they called the “come from aways.”

Referred to as a “9/12 story” by writers Irene Sankoff and David Hein, and based off the real lives and stories of the passengers, the Come From Away musical shows the great lengths humans will go to when disaster strikes — and that hopeful beginnings are birthed from unimaginable loss.

What to Watch For

  • Beverley Bass, the real-life pioneer pilot originated onstage by Jenn Colella, has seen Come From Away more than 101 times — and has no plans of stopping any time soon. In fact, the majority of characters in Come From Away are all inspired by those who were in Gander, Newfoundland in 2001.
  • Irene Sankoff and David Hein, the show’s songwriting duo, are married. They met in college at York University in Toronto. Come From Away is the second musical from the husband-and-wife writing team. Their first was a show written for the Toronto Fringe titled My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding.
  • A live performance of the Come From Away musical was filmed and released on Apple TV+ in September 2021, just before the 20th anniversary of 9/11. There's also a documentary about the making of Come From Away.
  • Before Come From Away on Broadway, the musical played multiple out-of-town engagements. Come From Away was at the La Jolla Playhouse and the Seattle Repertory Theatre in 2015, and the Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. and the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto in 2016 — as well as a pit stop back home in Gander.
  • Come From Away is recommended for ages 10+. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
  • Original cast member and Tony®-nominee, Jenn Colella returns to the cast on June 21.
