Death Becomes Her is a campy musical based on the hit Hollywood film. In the musical version, Helen plots revenge against Madeline, who holds fast to her rapidly fading star. As if there wasn’t enough drama, Viola Van Horn, a mysterious woman with a secret that’s to die for, comes into their lives hawking a magical potion that restores the women to their original beauty. Naturally, there is a price to pay: living with a grudge that will last until the end of time. What could go wrong?
The cast brings together comedy icons and Tony Award nominees Megan Hilty (Wicked, Smash) and Jennifer Simard (Company, Disaster!), who perform alongside Christopher Sieber (Spamalot, Company) and Grammy Award winner Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child, Chicago). Coming to Broadway this fall, this new musical is a laugh-out-loud spectacle about friendship, frenemies, and fresh love — and the fresh hell of burying the hatchet, again, and again, and again.
Death Becomes Her runs for 2hr 30min. Incl. 15min intermission.

The song list is not yet published, but expect “soaring duets,” per Variety, and lots of belting from two of Broadway’s most well-loved leading ladies.
Based on the 1992 film, Death Becomes Her features a book by Marco Pennette who is known for his TV credits, including Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives. It also “features music and lyrics from the very talented newcomer team of Julia Mattison and Noel Carey,” per the Chicago Tribune. Expect “crowd-pleasing strengths, including a genuinely funny book and a swirling, retro, filmic score that features a knockout two-pronged 11 o’clock number for Hilty and Simard.”
Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli pulls double duty directing and choreographing this new musical.
An age recommendation has yet to be finalized, but all Broadway audiences regardless of show must be four and over.
The out-of-town tryout caused a splash. The Chicago Tribune wrote, “There’s a lush physical production in an old school, drape-heavy Producers-like mode,” plus “a stellar cast” and a style that is “PG-13 funny, alive and fearlessly old-school.”
