About Grenfell: in the words of survivors

This powerful new verbatim play, from true survivor accounts of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, makes its New York debut — direct from London's National Theatre.

The hundreds of residents of West London’s Grenfell Tower had their origins in the Caribbean, Portugal, Syria, Morocco, Ethiopia, Britain, and more: a thriving community of communities immediately familiar to any New Yorker. They protested loudly for years as their mismanaged public housing fell into disrepair. When the building went up in flames in 2017, there was no shock, only horror. In the end, 72 lives would be lost.

Grenfell: in the words of survivors offers a compelling investigation into the catastrophe, driven by the survivors’ stories, their heroic acts, and their impassioned struggle for justice.

Great Staging, Masterful, Relevant

See it if A respectful treatment of a relevant topic. Dynamic, masterfully produced. Literally has you marching and joining in protest by the end.

Don’t see it if This is not light fare. The subject matter can be traumatizing. It should make you angry and pissed.

Absorbing, Great Acting, Great Staging, Slow

See it if An immersive show about a true story that really pulls you in.

Don’t see it if It's very sober and there's very little separation between audience and cast, can leave you feeling raw.

Activist, Devastating, Great Acting, Intense, Thought-Provoking

See it if you're down for a documentary/art-as-activism play on the Grenfell Tower fire & based directly on survivor accounts.

Don’t see it if you have any sort of fire-related phobia (not visually graphic, but described in detail); you'd prefer a tight & abridged version.
