Set in the 1950s, this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play is the 6th play in Wilson's monumental, ten-part 'Pittsburgh Cycle.' Troy Maxson, an African American garbage collector and ex-convict once had a promising career in baseball, but Troy's bitterness takes its toll on his relationships with his wife and his son, who now wants his own chance to play ball. Fences brings to life the struggles of everyday black Americans.
