More information about Drag: The Musical

In Drag: The Musical, two divas face off before understanding the power of teamwork. Following a savage friendship breakup, fierce drag queen Alexis Gilmore and glam diva Miss Kitty start their own drag houses. As stilettos click, wigs are snatched, and tempers flare, old rivalries resurface as their businesses battle for survival. Now, these queens must unite against all odds, bridging their divides to demonstrate how to truly dominate the scene.

Quick-witted jokes, bouncy tunes, and — of course — absolutely stellar wigs, lewks, and concepts will take over New World Stages this fall in this campy new musical. Fans of drag, fans of theatre, and fans of dueling divas will find lots to enjoy in Drag: The Musical, which runs for a limited time. A tale of family, fashion, and forgiveness, Drag: The Musical is a must-see for anyone who’s ever found their way back to an old friend.

What to watch for

  • Spencer Liff directs and choreographs the piece which features book, music, and lyrics by Justin Andrew Honard, Tomas Costanza, and Ashley Gordon. Gordon calls herself a “song stylist,” perfectly blending her musical and drag passions, and Costanza is a platinum-certified record producer. Honard is the birth name of the queen Alaksa, who appears in the show.
  • Drag artists have become increasingly popular on Broadway; Peppermint made waves appearing in the original cast of Head Over Heels, and Jinkx Monsoon brought the house down in Chicago.
  • RuPaul’s Drag Race has helped launch many careers, and now All Stars contestants are taking the next step forward by making, for many, their off-Broadway debuts in this show.
  • Joey McIntyre makes an exciting return to New York stages following his roles of Fiyero in Wicked and Dr. Pomatter in Waitress, both on Broadway.
