Sara Mearns, principal dancer at New York City Ballet, “has a power and command that few share” (The New York Times), and has established herself as an adventurous artist, unafraid to delve into vastly different genres. Mearns makes her curatorial debut in City Center’s fourth Artists at the Center program. The program begins with Don’t go home, a world premiere work co-created by renowned choreographer Guillaume Côté and Canadian actor/writer Jonathon Young. Dancing alongside NYCB soloist Gilbert Bolden III, Mearns explores the myriad challenges faced by an artist preparing for a role, and the often-blurred boundary between performer and self. In the second portion of the program, Mearns takes the stage again to showcase her trademark ability to “dance on a thrillingly huge scale” (The New York Times).
