John Proctor Is the Villain on Broadway Tickets

This new play has played in Boston and Washington, DC, where it got rave reviews. The Boston Globe calling it “genuinely funny and deadly serious,” and The Washington Post said, "Not only has Kimberly Belflower ingeniously set up nuanced resonances with America’s broader civic zeitgeist, she has also written a touching, and sometimes hilarious, portrait of bracingly specific 21st-century young people."

Now, John Proctor is the Villain comes to Broadway. Belflower makes her Broadway debut with her fast-rising hit. In the play, students discuss The Crucible and find that their lives’ own themes of sex ed, first love, and morality play out in parallel fashions in their homework reading. It also opens the door for the students to determine, on their own grounds, what constitutes a hero and villain. John Proctor is the Villain captures a generation on the cusp of adulthood and gives refreshing voice to Gen Z Americans.

What to watch for

• The niece of Julie Taymor, Danya Taymor has quickly risen the ranks on Broadway, starting her career off Broadway and making a name for directing Pulitzer finalist Heroes of the Fourth Turning.
• Kimberly Belflower is a playwright and educator originally from a small town in Appalachian Georgia and brings that background to the setting of her new play.
• Sadie Sink has been on Broadway before, starring in Annie and The Audience.
• Boston Theater Critics Association wrote, “Look out Arthur Miller: I left as fired up as these teenage girls.”
