Ian Rickson directs this new production making its New York debut after several successful runs around the world. In the spirit of David Mamet's Oleanna or the "American Bitch" episode of Girls, Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes is a riveting two-hander that pits an older teacher and younger student against one another as they jockey for the upper hand while battling sexual attraction.
the Toronto Star calls playwright Hannah Moscovitch "in control of her narrative, which she increasingly makes clear in her characterizations," which is "a powerful thing to witness." In Melbourne, The Age adds the play explores "deftly subverting traditional tropes within the age-old story of a student-teacher affair."
While Jackman has a Tony Award and long stage career, Beatty is rising to also make her mark: she made her Broadway debut in a replacement role in Appropriate and returned to theatre in an off-Broadway production of Ghosts.
