Mary Jane on Broadway showcases the highs and lows of a single mother caring for her young toddler, who lives with cerebral palsy and other health issues. She leans on women of various ages, backgrounds, and experiences for friendship and help, creating a found family for herself and her son.
The Mary Jane play premiered in 2017 at the Yale Repertory Theatre. During its subsequent Off-Broadway run at New York Theatre Workshop, Carrie Coon played Mary Jane, receiving an Obie Award and a Drama Desk Award nomination for her performance.
This time around, the star is McAdams, who you may know from her roles in Mean Girls, Spotlight, and The Notebook. Mary Jane is her first Broadway credit, so you're witnessing a major milestone in her career!
Her director, Anne Kauffman, returns to Broadway less than a year after staging the Tony-nominated revival of The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window, starring Oscar Isaac and Rachel Brosnahan, on and off Broadway.
