More information about A Chorus Line

A Chorus Line, conceived, directed, and choreographed by Michael Bennet, premiered on Broadway in 1975 at the Sam S. Shubert Theatre, where it ran until 1990. Bennet’s Broadway credits as a choreographer and director include Promises, Promises, Coco, Company, Follies, and Dreamgirls. James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante co-wrote the book, Marvin Hamlisch wrote the music, and Edward Kleban wrote the lyrics for A Chorus Line.

In 2006, A Chorus Line was revived on Broadway. This time, the musical showed at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre until 2008. The Broadway revival was nominated for several awards, including the 2007 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

The San Francisco Playhouse production is directed by Bill English, the co-founder and artistic director of the Playhouse. With Nicole Helfer's choreography and Dave Dobrusky's musical direction, A Chorus Line is a show you won’t want to miss!

  • In 1985, the musical was adapted into a film directed by Richard Attenborough, starring Michael Douglas, Terrence Mann, and Michael Blevins. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards, plus Best Motion Picture and Best Director at the Golden Globes.
