Vocalist Nicolas Bearde brings his distinctive interpretations to the beloved songbook of the late Burt Bacharach, whose seven decades of unforgettable music has become part of the American cultural fabric from hits including “The Look of Love” to the classic “That’s What Friends Are For.”
A native of Nashville, Bearde began singing in earnest while living in Japan during his military service. After a stint in the L.A. music scene, he made his home in the Bay Area, and began focusing on jazz. For more than a decade he toured and recorded with Bobby McFerrin’s innovative vocal ensemble Voicestra and later its off-shoot, SoVoSó. He has released 6 albums as a leader, and is also the vocalist and narrator for saxophone great Vincent Herring’s “Story of Jazz Orchestra” that chronicles 100 years of recorded jazz. He balances his music career with acting in stage productions, television and major feature films. In 1997, Bearde formed his own Right Groove Records imprint to record and release his jazz and soul-influenced albums, including his latest acclaimed session “I Remember You: The Music of Nat King Cole.” With his supple phrasing and tender delivery, Bearde turns every song he sings into personal expressions of love, hope, and soul. On this night, Bacharach’s timeless music and the indelible lyrics of Hal David will provide his magic carpet.
