Umbrella Foundation is delighted to present Driftwood – The Musical. This epic story has been adapted for the stage by award-winning playwright Jane Bodie, based on the original memoir by Eva de Jong-Duldig. It features original music and arrangements by Anthony Barnhill with lyrics by Tania de Jong AM, Jane Bodie and Anthony Barnhill. Acclaimed Director Gary Abrahams brings a stellar cast to the stage.
Driftwood – The Musical tells the inspirational story of the renowned Austrian/Australian sculptor Karl Duldig and his artist/inventor wife, Slawa Horowitz-Duldig.
We follow their lives in pre-war Vienna, Slawa’s ingenious invention of the foldable umbrella, and an incredible chain of events: miraculously escaping the Holocaust and rebuilding their careers as artists in Melbourne.
A magical story of art and creativity, survival and perseverance, family, freedom and love.

GETTING TO THE VENUE
BY TRAIN: Parramatta is linked from all directions by train. Riverside is approximately a 12-minute walk from Parramatta Train Station.
Exit the station towards Parramatta Square (exit 5), turn left towards Centenary Square, Parramatta Town Hall and PHIVE. Turn right towards Church Street, and follow it up to the theatre, just across the Lennox Bridge.
BY BUS: Bus services are available to Parramatta from all directions: through Hills Bus, Sydney Buses and Hopkinsons. The nearest bus stops are on Wilde Ave/Smith St – a short walk away from the theatre.
BY FREE SHUTTLE: The Parramatta Shuttle Bus is a fast, free and accessible service run by Transport for NSW through Transdev. Operating on a continuous loop starting from Macquarie Street near Centenary Square, the shuttle bus connects rail, bus and ferry transport interchanges with local shops, community hubs and Riverside Theatres.
BY FERRY: Parramatta Quay is an enjoyable 8-minute walk to us along the river.
BY LIGHT RAIL: Parramatta Light Rail will soon be available as a transport option, with the Prince Alfred Square Light Rail stop being a short walk from the theatre.
BY TAXI: The best drop-off point is located behind the theatre on Market Street. For pick-ups, a new secure taxi rank is located at 28 Phillip Street with security guards on duty every Friday and Saturday night from 9pm until 2am to keep you and your driver safe.
BY CAR: Permanent traffic changes are now in place on and around Church Street (between Market & Macquarie Streets) for the Parramatta Light Rail. We advise checking the Riverside Theatres Parramatta Parking Guide.
