About Mr Red Light

Mr Red Light is a man who attracts bad luck. So naturally, when he tries to rob a bank he fails miserably – and ends up in a pie shop dealing with three very uncooperative hostages and the world’s worst police negotiator.

As time ticks by, Mr Red Light and his captives play a game of getting to know you. With nowhere to run and nothing to lose, they form an unlikely bond. And mysteriously, Mr Red Light seems to know more about his hostages’ lives than is possible.

Created by the award winning Nightsong team (Te Pō, Spirit House, 360) “who make the impossible work” (Stuff), Mr Red Light is one of the funniest and most outrageously original NZ plays to hit the stage in years. Mr Red Light is a fool or a prophet. But either way, he’ll remind you how wonderful life can be.

More information about Mr Red Light

"The latest creation from writer Carl Bland, director Ben Crowder and theatre company Nightsong is one of the most surreal, beautiful, hysterical and outrageously original shows to grace an Auckland stage this year, a bombastic tale that leaps between ideas and concepts in a maddening, tightly constructed 90-minute joyride." - NZ Herald

"The brilliance of this play is that deeper issues are interrogated with a personal comedic touch and joyous spot-on humour – signalled by the audience’s roars of laughter from start to finish." - Theatrescenes

"With nods to Kiwi culture and its inquiry into our identity, live theatre goers should not miss this one." - NZ Entertainment Podcast
