Composer Kevin Puts and librettist Mark Campbell's Pulitzer Prize-winning opera—based on a surprising Christmas truce during World War I—can stand on its own anytime of the year. Evoking different national styles from simple folk tunes to magnificently orchestrated solo and choral pieces, the score captures the energy of battle-hardened soldiers and the vivid experience of peace. Sung in English, German, French, Italian, and Latin with English captions.
