Shucked on Broadway is, above all, corny. Literally. Welcome to Cob County, where corn sustains everyone’s lives — until the crop starts dying, and it's up to the farmgirl Maizy to find someone to help. This musical comedy’s creative team is the cream of the crop, with five-time Tony-winning director Jack O’Brien, Tony-winning bookwriter Robert Horn, and Grammy-winning country songwriters Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally.
Expect a cross "between The Book of Mormon and Oklahoma!," according to Horn, with echoes of other classic musicals planted inside a homegrown original story. Shucked is the juiciest, most entertaining thing to come from Salt Lake City since The Real Housewives.
A fresh plot, catchy songs that will delight your ears, and a golden cast and creative team? That’s a recipe for Broadway success — Shucked earned nine Tony nominations, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.

A tall thicket of corn surrounds the entire town of Cob County in the Shucked musical, spelling trouble when it starts to wilt. Maizy puts her wedding on hold to save the day, and the townspeople perk up their ears when she returns from Tampa, Florida with Gordy, a "corn doctor" (read: podiatrist) who claims he can help. And while there are kernels of truth to his story, all isn't as it seems.
Shucked premiered in 2022 at Pioneer Theatre Company in Salt Lake City, Utah, to positive reviews — the show “nearly [blew] the roof off the theater,” according to the Utah Arts Review. That's no surprise, considering its celebrated creative team. Robert Horn, a 2019 Tony winner for Tootsie, wrote the book for Shucked on Broadway, and Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally wrote the “all-killer, no-filler” (Salt Lake City Weekly) songs. They're making their Broadway debuts and are known in the country music scene for writing hits for Kelly Clarkson, Kacey Musgraves, Reba McEntire, Sheryl Crow, and more.
Director Jack O'Brien pops back onto Broadway for the first time since 2019. Before Shucked in New York, he directed other musical comedies like Hairspray (which won him a Tony Award), Catch Me If You Can, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Lend your ears to the corniest musical comedy on Broadway, about a farmgirl who ventures to the big city to save her rural town's dying corn crop. The Tony Award-winning show features catchy country tunes by Grammy-winning songwriters Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally.
