It’s no secret that Idina Menzel is one of Broadway’s most sought-after performers. World famous for providing the voice of Elsa in Frozen and originating the role of Elphaba in Wicked, winning her Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, Menzel is a fierce but vulnerable performer, channeling great emotion and yearning in her vocals without sacrificing strength.
Menzel made a name for herself originating the role of Maureen in Rent. That, and her turn in Wicked, garnered her greater fame. Hopping back and forth between TV (Glee) and film (Enchanted), she was also known to return to the stage, as she did in If/Then. Now, she’s back on Broadway after years away taking part in another original musical.
In Redwood, she once again portrays a forceful but searching character. A musical refreshing in its originality, wit, and heart, Redwood promises to be an unforgettable journey complete with an awe-inspiring design and first-class musical theatre talent.
Redwood is at New York's Nederlander Theatre, which is located at 208 West 41st Street (between 7th and 8th Avenue), New York, 10036.
Redwood runs for 1hr 50min. No intermission.

Redwood is an original musical featuring a contemporary score by Kate Diaz, who, per Idina Mezel, writes “beautiful melodies and also music that really feels like a film score.”
Newcomer Kate Diaz wrote the music, and Broadway vet Tina Landau wrote the book, and both contributed to the lyrics.
Tony Award nominee Tina Landau pulls double duty, both directing the show and providing its book and lyrics alongside Kate Diaz.
This show is recommended for ages 12 and up. Redwood contains strong language and themes of loss and addiction.
Reviews were dazzling at La Jolla, where the production enjoyed a sold-out run. “Redwood has an honest and profoundly relatable story that's told in an intimate, unique and breathtaking way,” wrote the San Diego Union-Tribune.
