More information about The Last Five Years

The Last Five Years is a cherished and standout musical in that part of the story moves forward in time, while part of it moves backward. In the show, Jamie is a rising author who starts his journey looking forward to an early date with Cathy. His story moves chronologically forward, from the excitement of new romance to bitter divorce, which is where Cathy begins her story. Working backwards, Cathy moves from a place of deep melancholy to her first days with Jamie when the world, and her career as an actress, all felt before her. Somewhere along the way, the two lovers meet in the middle.

Inventive in its storytelling and bursting with a passionate score, The Last Five Years is a textured and singular love story. One of Jason Robert Brown's most-performed scores, songs from this show are often seen in cabaret acts and are covered by musical theatre favorites. Now, two powerhouses bring their chops to this new Broadway production.
